ENERGY

QUESTIONS ABOUT ENERGY
1. Have you ever used the word energy? Say different ways in which you use the word energy.
(when you are tired to play and need some food to go on, when a toy doesn´t work because runs out its battery, when dad´s car stopped because it needs some gasoline to drive…)
2. What gives you energy to do all the activities you do everyday?(food)
3. What makes cars, lorries, planes, boats move?(Fuel)
4. What do you do to make your toy work again?(Changing batteries)
5. What makes a sailboat to move, a windmill to rotate? (The wind)
6. What makes the waterwheel turning?(The waterstream)
7. How do plants and trees make their own food? (underline the role of sunlights in the process)
8. What is energy? (what makes things go perhaps may be more comprenhensible than “the ability to work” for children)
9. How do we get the energy we use to make machines works, cars move, to heat the water…? (petrol, gas, coal, electricity…)
10. Where does the electricity come from? How do we get it? (From power plants. Burning fuel, gas, coal or from the sun, wind, waterstream…)
11. Which are some machines that use energy at home? What forms of energy?
12. What is the most powerfullenergy source on Earth? (The sun. Without sunlight nothing would exist)
13. In what ways does energy come? (light, heat, chemical, mechanical, sound, colors, electrical…)
14. Energy doesn´t disappear  when you used in a device: it just changes into another form.
Find the energy input and output from a radio, a computer or a tv. What gives the radio power? What do you hear, watch or both?  What about a bulb?
15. Where do petrol, gas and coal come from? What are fossil fuels?http://www.discoveringfossils.co.uk/fossilfuels.htm
(from the ground) (Are formed from de remains of living things trapped in pore under the ground from prehistoric times)
16. Why aren´t fossil fuels the best choice for energy sources? (Burning can be bad for environment, it is the main cause of global warm and climate change. Beside this, it took millions of years to form and can run out, that´s because it is more and more expensive….)
17. What are renewables energy? Signalize the main differences with fossil fuels. (Clean. Not ending….)
18. What is nuclear energy? Is it renewable or non renewable? What can be the consequences of using it? Look for examples of this danger.
19. How can I help prevent Climate Change?http://cooltheearth.org/
20. Look for information about energy used in your country: make graphics about the percentage use of different energy sources: coal, petroleum, gas, nuclear, solar, wind…. Collect the graphics from your project partners and compare with yours.
21. Take light invoices and analyze the comsumption of electricity at home or at school a month or along the year. When do you spend more? Why? Which is the contracted power? What does it mean?....
22. Analyze the nutritional information on the packages of food and drink you usually have: composition, fat, proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc.
23. What can we do at school and home to protect the environment and to prevent contamination?

OUR WORKS ABOUT ENERGY

Meeting

SPAIN

Students have worked with interested; they learnt a lot of interesting facts about the use of energy in other countries and they knew ideas how to reduce the use of electricity. They could compare our data with the other countries` statitics. They understood "Saving energy is the best way to preserve natural resources".
